Setting Up the Ideal Home Office

There are many advantages to working from home, most notably the time and money saved by eradicating the daily commute. Thanks to the global pandemic, many of us have been forced to work from home full time, which has involved creating makeshift home offices that we didn’t foresee would be a permanent feature in our home. Read on for some tips on how to create the ideal home office that is better suited as a lasting environment for your work.

What’s important?

It’s important for your home office to be separate from your personal life, like a spare room perhaps. It needs to have limited clutter and decent lighting so that you can work comfortably, without distraction. Consider what equipment you might need, which will depend on your line of works. You might need a filing cabinet and multifunctional printer, or just a small desk and comfy chair. If the space is fairly limited, consider your storage options carefully, to keep everything tidy and organised.

Think About Colour

Bear in mind that the colours surrounding you can have an impact on your mood which, in turn, can affect productivity. Green is a good option, as it can relieve stress and calm your nerves. A gentle atmosphere can help you concentrate, so even if you don’t want to paint the walls green, you could consider some soft furnishings and plants.

Work Life Balance

One of the downfalls to working from home is the inability to switch off. We often find ourselves working much longer hours when we’re working from home, which is not beneficial to our health. With that in mind, make sure you have an obvious way to monitor your time otherwise it will not be an ideal home office. Consider a big clock on the wall or a smaller, digital clock aside your computer. Maybe you could even set an alarm on your phone to encourage you to call it a day. It’s important to maintain a healthy work-life balance so that you don’t become too stressed or exhausted.
