When it comes to working from home, it can be hard to get into the right mind-set to be productive. Having a clearly defined workspace within your home should remedy this issue! There are several areas you should focus on for a home office. These will ensure that your space continues to support your motivation.

Location

You may be limited with space in your house to create a dedicated home office. However to create the perfect environment an airy space with a view would be ideal. For me currently I have located a home office in our old pantry, which unfortunately does not boast a window. However, it is rather roomy, and away from the main walkthrough of the house.

This leads on to another good point you want to make sure you can actually work without undue interruptions just as you would in an office workplace. Placing your office off the beaten track in your home certainly is a must! If you are unable to have a dedicated room then looking at furnishing options that would allow for a dual use would be the ideal solution.

Colours and Furniture

Once you have your location sorted it is time to decide on the colour of your room. For me I went for white. When it comes to furniture Furniturebox has some great office desks and chairs.  I really love their white high gloss-rotating computer desks, not only are they very functional but they add that little extra boldness to the room. However, there is the danger it can quickly become a clinical and cold looking room.

Contrasting the desk and walls with a bold racing style office chair really changes the atmosphere of the room.

Technology

One thing that really was an afterthought on my part was the internet. My home office is so far away from the router that the WIFI signal did not reach. The easiest way to remedy this is to use some WIFI extenders. Two options are available pure WIFI boosters that just boost the signal or boosters that send the internet through the copper wires in your electric circuit. I opted for the second option as you end up with a more consistent internet speed when using a wired connection.

Another home office addition I went with was dual screens. I love to multitask, and there is no better way than to utilise more than one screen at a time. I can be editing videos and rendering while creating content on the other! Which makes for some great time management.

Accessorise your space

Once you have met your basics, it can be quite worthwhile to add in some finishing touches. For me adding in a social bench for visitors has transformed my home office into quite a little hub. Adding in some plants not only give a great decorative effect but could improve your productivity!

Don’t forget to ensure you have some cable tidies to hide away those unsightly wires. I found some great white tubing to hide all those black wires to keep your workspace ultra-sleek.
