We’ve had some pretty extreme weather so far this year, from horrific snow storms that have brought the country to a standstill, to torrential rain, high winds and baking hot Bank Holidays! So, as we head into the warmer months of the year we can finally say that summer is almost here!
With that in mind, it’s time to finally put away those heavy throws and extra duvets and get your home ready for the warm weather ahead. Unsure of where to begin? Read on!
Your carpet gets a battering over the winter months, and we’re always trying to save it from all those muddy boot prints and soggy trainers! So, if your carpet has had a particular bad start to the year then why not upgrade your flooring to something more durable? Laminate and hardwood flooring are popular choices in busy households – not forgetting floor and door trims.
If you’re worried about having laminate during the colder months then consider placing non-slip rugs in the areas you’re worried about.
Oh, I do love to be beside the seaside.
With warmer months ahead, many of us will head to the beach. So why not bring a little of the beach to you? Don’t worry you don’t have to fill your bag with sand! A few nautical themed accessories will give your home a real beachy look and feel. From cushions with seaside motifs and lamps adorned with shells to lighthouse shaped candle holders – the choice is endless!
Nothing quite says summer like big leafy plants and gorgeous blooms. And they’re not just for your garden either! Consider bringing a touch of nature indoors with a few well placed potted plants and floral arrangements. Did you know that having plants indoors is good for you? Studies have shown that plants give us a sense of calm and purify the air around us.
Or if you’re working with a tighter budget, consider some fake flowers instead!
We can’t always guarantee the warm weather, so why not consider bringing some garden furniture indoors? Head to a charity shop – or buy new it’s your choice – and see what they have available. Adding a wicker or cane garden chair into an empty corner in the living room or the hallway will give your home an instant summertime feel.
Summer is all about colour. From the yellow sand, to the deep blue sea and everything in-between. So, don’t forget to play around with colour in your home. Bright colours always bring a sense of fun and happiness to a room – much like the sunshine! If you’re worried about getting carried away and objects clashing too much, then start with something simple.
A few bright scatter cushions here and there, a colourful print on the wall or some brightly coloured pillar candles for a pop of colour. Decorating with accessories means that when summer is over you can play around with autumn colours and bring out the summer shades next year.
