Making Plans for the Bathroom

The wife isn’t happy with me as I ordered myself a new computer!  Because of that she is writing a long list of things she wants doing in the house.  Doesn’t that always seem the case in relationships.  Well in mine anyway!  It’s all about a constant process of bartering, “You got a computer, I want the bathroom doing!”.  So, I better start making plans for the bathroom as the wife can be quite determined when she wants something.  I guess I am no different seeing as I got a computer after my wife was adamant we had other financial priorities.

To be fair to her we bought a bigger house, so we would have more bathrooms.  Four years on we still have just the one!  I guess her request is more reasonable and beneficial for everyone in the family!  We did bite off more than we could chew with this house, but you kind of stick with it once your committed to the project.

So, what exactly are the plans for the bathroom

First things first one of those walk in showers would be at the top of the wife’s list.  She wants a big shower, but it must be enclosed!  We have learnt quite early how using an open walk in shower just makes everything wet.  She can’t wait for that to be ripped out and to start putting her own unique stamp on the bathroom.

The Current Bathroom

Making do, that’s what we always seem to do a lot of.  We ran out of funds and had to just use what is already there.  In our case it wouldn’t have been so bad, but it’s an ex healthcare house and the bathrooms were very old and some of them modified for disabled use.  We ripped out three and then had to stick with the last one as we had no money left to install new bathrooms to replace them.

Never approach a renovation project without first living in your house for a month.  Get a feel for it, as otherwise you might make hasty changes that you didn’t really need to do.  One of the bathrooms was okay.  It would have been much nicer than the one we ended up keeping.  However, in our rush to do as much as the renovation as possible.  We caused more chaos in the long run.

It’s probably good that the last bathroom had an open shower room as we now know that set-up isn’t for us.  We wouldn’t choose to do that when we come to install a new bathroom.  It’s not the most family friendly option in a bathroom.  The kids have slipped on the wet floor before!

Keeping a Bath

We will still need a bath as the kids love baths.  They are crazy about Bath Bombs and seeing them dissolve and change the colour of the water.  I think a bath is a nice way to relax so its worth having one in the house for everyone’s benefit.

Adding a Heater

Her other request is a new bathroom heater.  It costs a fortune to heat our whole house to warm up the bathroom enough for the kids to have a bath.  If we added bathroom heaters we could just keep that room cosy whilst we wash.  My mother in law first suggested it and I think she is on to something with that idea.  Often, we plough ahead and make up our own minds, it doesn’t always work out well.  We will take advice, do our research and plan this time round.  Nothing in the last bathroom will get ripped out until we are happy with everything.
