Our bedroom is finally getting closer to completion and now we can start the fun part picking out furniture and accessories. I was reading an article on how to have a glamorous bedroom on a budget which has given me lots of great ideas. When it comes to interiors we aren’t the most imaginative of couples, we tend to paint everything magnolia, recycle the furniture we already own and hope for the best! Mind you our room has lots of positives so perhaps I should focus on them, the amount of natural light and the high ceilings so I want to put more thought into how the finished room will look.

We don’t have a fortune to spend so it’s good to get some inspiration on the cheap, the builders cost a fair bit getting the room boarded up and freshly plastered so that means the decorating budget is quite lean! But I do want to get some decent furniture, some things you can’t compromise on. I good furniture is worth spending on and you get what you pay for in terms of quality and durability. Cheap furniture is often cheaply made.

Invest in decent bedside cabinets

I love these french provincial bedside tables they add so much character and elegance to the room. Picking out ornate pieces of furniture give the room more style, it doesn’t look like you have just picked out the cheapest mass produced flat pack you could find. It’s more about searching for individual bespoke looking pieces and getting them to work alongside one another. Don’t overload the bedside cabinet either, just keep it simple. Clutter is never glamourous, a lamp, a scented candle and book should suffice.

Buy Fresh Flowers

There is nothing like a vase of flowers to set the scene and gently scent the air, if regularly buying fresh flowers proves too expensive try and find some faux ones that still look the part. There are ones that look very realistic and will brighten your room.

Plump those pillows

Big pillows, cushions and throws make the bedroom look inviting. A glamourous room needs to be comfortable and appeal to the senses. Make sure the bed is always dressed, think about how staying at a hotel makes you feel and try and recreate that chic finish with satin and faux fur scatter cushions and plumped up pillows. Purchase a headboard to soften the room further.

Add some bling

Adding metallic colours to the room whether through the choice of cushions or the wall art will add some luxury! Silver and grey compliment each other well, you just don’t want to go overboard, so perhaps bring in some soft shaded pastels too.

Buy a chandelier light fitting

If you want the bedroom to sparkle adding a chandelier can transform the space. But do consider having dimmer switches when you want to change the ambiance in the room.
