Felix Unbound (£10.99)

This dark comedy by Cathy Gunn is full of twists and turns all brought on by Tiffany breaking a set of inherited Egyptian figurines and granting a rather careless wish that men were more like her pet cat Felix. The blurb had my wife intrigued and she devoured the book in almost one sitting. As she was so eager to see how things would turn out. In place of a tabby cat now lies a tanned muscular man! This fantasy fiction book was entertaining and funny and definitely makes you realize you need to be careful what you wish for. The perfect bit of escapism, I know I have wondered before what our pets would be like if they ever turned human.

Countdown To A Killing (£8.99)

This is the second book by Tom Vaughan Macaulay. It is a modern murder mystery, both sad and funny, thrilling and disturbing. It is a book full of everyone’s struggles and heartache. But you will be hooked wanting to see the characters developing as they become increasingly entangled and the suspense builds. The format of the story is quite novel as it is told through emails and WhatsApp messages that led up to the killing. The book touches on lots of different issues such as ethnicity, sexuality, discrimination in the workplace and obsessive compulsive disorder.

Spellboda (£8.99)

This captivating book is aimed for young adults. Trevor’s mum has died, and life isn’t the same anymore. His dad is grieving and cannot look at him without yelling. School life is even worse, and he only really has his mum’s cat for company. Luckily Trevor discovers an incredible gift in this magical adventure after meeting Midge, a peregrine falcon in danger. A good book to get children thinking about conservation, how hard the teenage years can be and the importance of self-belief and confidence.
