Week 34 & 35 Holiday, Fishing and Car Boot
We have been lucky enough to have a week away, so there was no update last week. We seemed to get a lot fitted in which was great!
We travelled quite some way, over 250 miles in fact! The journey there was quite a nice run. However, on the return journey the Satnav decided it wanted to take us on a rural route. Just going on one motorway despite me selecting the correct route system!
Car boot sale
We met up with my parents for the first couple of days. They love going to car boot sales and have a challenge between them. They buy an item for £2 and then put it on Ebay! They have made quite some profit over the year. They also love to buy Lego and sell complete sets. So we headed off at 6.30 am to the local boot sale.
It was one of the biggest car boot sales I have been to since I was a kid. It took us about four hours to get around! The boys found a few items to sell on Ebay, which we will look at listing soon. Me and Karen however came home with nothing!
My Mum on the other hand. Seemed to find something on every other stall!
Fishing
After the car boot sale we set off to catch up on some fishing with Grandad. We decided to try a new fishing lake. Unfortunately at arrival they advised us that spectators had to pay £14 as well as those of us fishing. Luckily, they let us in this time for free. But to be honest I would not have paid £28 on top of the £28 paid to fish!
We then settled down at our peg and started to fish. I set the boys rods up and we set about fishing. Youngest even caught a fish while I was still setting up Eldest’s! It was a good days fishing, catching a lot! We even got a cooked breakfast delivered to our peg.
Bowling
We haven’t been bowling in quite a while. I think the last time must have been when we were on a press trip in Paris. So it was good to dust off the cobwebs. The first game I was lagging behind and Eldest won. But the second I was clearly in the lead! Well until the last round when Karen came out of no where and stole my win by one point! I’m not bitter at all!
I thought bowling was a bit expensive for five of us costing £52! But I managed to find some online deals that brought the price down to a more frugal £36.66! They had great social distancing as every other lane was closed off.
Eating out
Having miss most of the Eat out to Help out government incentive as I have been working. We made the most of eating out while away. In fact, I think we managed to use the benefit at least five or six times!
It really makes the difference and we opted to eat out rather than have sandwiches in due to the benefit.
One of the highlights for me was Five Guys. I love having control over the toppings on an already delicious burger!
Days out
We had a few days out over the course of the holiday.
We visited Nelsons Fort, it was great to see all the different cannons and launchers used in various wars. Due to COVID you have to book your 2-hour slot but it only costs £3 for parking so was a relatively cheap day out!
We also had a trip to sunny Southsea, it was great to see a seaside town. The prom was nice to walk down. On our adventure we found a place that did mini-golf. We had a 12 hole game, it was a close one with me just winning on the last few holes!
The New Forest Wildlife Park was another of our adventure days. I know the park had been struggling during the COVID lockdown and had been struggling to feed the animals. So we were only too happy to support them. They had a really good one-way system around the park. They also had one of the best play parks I have seen, we all really enjoyed the day.
One of the highlights for me was seeing the wolf pack!
Shopping
We aren’t big shoppers but while being in the city we took the chance to get some of the back to school things we had yet to get. The biggest change for us was the fact that it was mandatory to wear face coverings. It really does make you feel safer while shopping. I can’t understand why we have yet to adopt this in wales!
Track of the week
I haven’t really had a chance to listen to music over the last week. So I have decided to pick one of my old favourites. Mansun’s Wide Open Space enjoy!

Looks like you had a great trip. I’m not sure I could have managed 4 hours at a car boot – don’t have much shopping stamina. Well done on getting a deal on the bowling, but it still seems expensive.
Sounds like it was a great break away. We loved Southsea when we went, nice to see the sea – we live so far from it, we’ve missed seeing it this year. Can’t believe the fished tried to charge the same price for spectators – a reduced price fair enough, but that’s expensive otherwise.
Glad you enjoyed your week away and spending time with family. That car boot sale sounds epic. I don’t think I’d have wanted to pay for spectating at the fishing lake either but lovely to have a cooked breakfast delivered to your peg. Looks like bowling was fun and glad you managed to get the price down. We visited Fort Nelson a few years ago and enjoyed it there. #project366
I’d forgotten how expensive it was to go out with a family, we have 5 kids and always had to shop around, that price for watching the fishing is steep, glad they let you off this time. Satnav’s drive me bonkers, I always check the route before I head out, but I only seem to be doing runs to Heathrow at the moment
Sounds like a great trip, with loads packed in. Too bad you got beaten at bowling lol ! The fishing sounds great but wow, I wouldn’t pay full price as a spectator either ! The boot sale challenge sounds fun. Ooh Wide Open Spaces – I haven’t listened to that for years so I’m listening as I write this reply ! 🙂

That tiny mouse is adorable! It looks like you all had a fun trip! That’s too much money for fish. Hahahahaha too bad, maybe you’ll beat your family next time. OoOO that’s a cool launcher. It’s so good of you all to go to the park and help out. Nice tracks but I’m still hooked onto Sia’s Unstoppable and I saw Leon: The Professional after watching that video dozens of times!
I still can’t believe you all got up for 6am to go to a car boot sale on your holiday! Have to admit I do love car boots, not as much as Liv though, she is straight in there! I am loving the £2 challenge… I might set Liv on that in the future, so what we can find!
So glad you had a lovely break away, you all totally needed it! It must have been weird crossing the border and all of a sudden having to wear masks. I’ve worn one all the way through when shopping, so it’s second nature now, but cannot wait for the time when they aren’t necessary anymore!
