Utilise the lockdown to get organised

With the COVID-19 lockdown still well and truly in full effect. How can you utilise the time you have at home? For me I still have day to day work to go to as I am a keyworker. However, my off days used to take us far and wide, but not anymore!

In an effort to fill my days I have drawn up a plan of action for organising the house.

Furniture

Top of the list is rearranging the furniture we have in each room. Having moved the sideboard from the hallway into our dining room, in an attempt to stop cluttering up our hallway! It has left our hallway clear and flowing. Our living room on the other hand has three sofa’s in it (all matching luckily) but I have always wanted to play with the layout a little. Having time now to do so saves the argument of time wasting!

Our boiler room is currently where I keep all of my tools. It’s another area that desperately needs attention, I just randomly stash everything in a few big boxes. So its high time I invest in some proper garage storage. After all, spending my free time now should save me some time in the future, rather than wasting hours on end trying to find the needed tools for a project!

Cupboards

Having had a good dig around the house, we have way too much cupboard space. Take the kitchen for example. We have thirteen cupboards just in there. We aren’t hoarders but it is really shocking what we have stashed away in the back of cupboards. Some of the out of date food items where ridiculous (seriously we must have moved into the house with them out of date!) Not only that the unending paperwork, half finished kids projects and unused kitchen equipment.

When I have finished with the kitchen I am heading straight for the wardrobes! I need to dump loads of clothes that no longer fit me. I was expecting to be losing weight over this lock down however it seems to be the reverse!

Finances

There has never been a better time to stop and think about your finances. With the COVID lockdown there are a lot of people struggling or worrying about the impact this whole thing has on your finances. I tend to regularly review household bills, but there is no harm in reviewing them all early. We had a full-on repayment plan to get our finances on top form. Of course, things like this can take a back seat while you wait for things to return to normal. Search for government advice and see what help is available, no one should feel alone during the lockdown!
