Planning for the year ahead New Years Resolutions

As the New Year approaches, we all start thinking of our New Year resolutions. I know this is true for me! I have already been searching for some exercise equipment and doing my best to clear the house of all that Christmas chocolate! Although I might just start the year as a newly diagnosed diabetic.

But on a serious note, this year has been an interesting one!

Firstly we took stock of our finances and put in place a serious spending limit. We also had new opportunities with my wife’s work that took us out of the UK! That led to my first driving experience abroad, one that I will not be repeating which I am sure is great relief to the rest of the family! We continued to do more work on the house. The master bedroom and ensuite are now complete, and we even got a wood burner installed!

So what about next year, what are we going to strive to achieve?

Financial

This is the year; we are going to get debt free (apart from the mortgage!) All that belt tightening will be worth it once we are able to start saving!

House

Bathroom with bath and sink with cabinets. Tiles are teal colour and the bath and sink white.

Over the course of the year we managed to have some money available to do some work on the house. So why change things for the coming year? We have already agreed on what we want to do. The family bathroom which is currently an empty shell and the hallway which looks like it should be in the TV show Haunting of Hill house! What we cannot agree on is a bath! I want one in the bathroom, but the Mrs is adamant she does not!

Health

I know I need to do better. I am currently about two stone overweight, which I would love to shift. However, it is something I want to do from the comfort of my own home. Could you imagine rocking up to a gym as unfit as I am? It would be so embarrassing out of breath just walking into the place! So this is the year I am getting my rowing machine back! I used to religiously do 30 minutes every day. However since family life has took hold my rowing machine faded away to scrap!

Family

This year I am hopeful the boys will settle down and stop fighting. I remember back to how me and my sister used to behave, and I am sure it stopped when I when to high school. So here is hoping that this will happen in their case too!

Blog

Laptop on desk with screen off, phone on notepad. glass faded in the background.

I already work full time as a Practice Manager. So have let my blog slip away over the past few months (or the best part of the year!) However, have just recently realised how much I do enjoy writing. So my plan for this year is to regain my lost readers and attempt to raise my blogging profile again! I am sure I can still fit in a few hours of gaming on top! After all it could be content right?

I think that the New Year gives us the step back moment we need. I prefer rather than setting resolutions that I put in place a rough set of goals. Both me and the wife were gamers and having goals to achieve and upgrade on has always guided us well! After all I could say I would give up chocolate but we all know I would be eating it by lunch time New Years day!
