Our house will have two bathrooms and one en-suite when it’s finished. Currently two of these rooms are completely empty, freshly plastered and ready to be fitted once we have saved up enough money to complete each bathroom project. 

Fortunately, we got rid of one en-suite completely as I think for a family of four, four bathrooms would have been overkill!

Once the other two are completed the final bathroom can then be ripped out and re-done! I can’t stand that room, but we have had to make do until finances changed. It still has a lot of the original fittings as it was equipped to deal with people with physical/mental difficulties that needed more assistance, so extra rails, a seat to sit in the shower etc. It makes the wife miserable as our bathroom is definitely not Instagram friendly!

Getting There Slowly

The house is very much work in progress. I would love to wave a magic wand and for it all to be completed but it will be worth it in the end. That has to be our mantra when it comes to a house of this magnitude! I should really mock up a mood board, so I get my vision right. But I have written so many posts about bathrooms to get myself in the correct frame of mind! Technically I should be good to go when the time comes as in theory I will know more than most about bathrooms. You can see my earlier post about ideas for a small bathroom but this post is more about my main aims for our bathrooms.

It’s hard thinking about how to design each bathroom so it has its own individual character. I don’t want three identical bathrooms but something a bit different. I plan on visiting showrooms like Harrogate Bathroom for luxury ideas and bathroom design we need all the help we can get when it comes to getting our interiors right. You can never visit enough showrooms when it comes to picking out the perfect bathroom. Window shopping is a fabulous pursuit whilst you wait to save up enough money to start!

Here are my main three priorities:

Easy to clean

My biggest priority is a bathroom that is easy to keep clean. Let’s be honest cleaning a bathroom is a bit of a ball ache. Worst still when we eventually have three of them! The grout changes colour and looks nasty quite quickly. The tiles need a jolly good scrub to come up clean. I am thinking vinyl wall coverings that can be wiped down easily. Our current bathroom is tiled everywhere, it’s a wet room of sorts. Don’t think that means its sophisticated it really isn’t! If you want to avoid using grout consider glass backed counters as an another option. You don’t need to go down the traditional paths. Instead, think outside the box so you have a bathroom that’s a heck of a lot easier to clean.

Timeless

I want a bathroom that will last the distance not outdate in a few short years. Fashions come and go, and it can be expensive having to redo each bathroom. Especially if its just to keep up with the latest trend. So, I am going to stick with neutral colours, white is always a good choice you really can’t go wrong with that. My mother in law had an avocado bathroom suite now that was an interesting look… (the stuff of nightmares!).

Add personality

Without going overboard, you can make the pieces look more interesting. Try replacing the vanity unit handles with something more unique or putting some thought into the floor files you buy.
