The majority of people tend to buy used cars anyway but that figure has increased thanks to COVID. Apparently, more people want their own private space. Travelling on public transport did not seem so safe, because of that there has been an influx in used car sales. I have only owned two cars since passing my driving test when I was 25. The first was a used car bought from my stepdad and the second a brand-new car. I think when it comes the time to buy my third car I would reconsider buying a used car, the reasons why I have included below:

Saves You A Lot Of Money

Purchasing a brand-new car is an expensive business and something many who have been impacted by COVID cannot afford now. Usually the biggest worry is depreciation, the value of a new car soon decreases. In the first year it can lose up to 35% of its value, which isn’t something you want to deal with in these uncertain times. So, you can avoid this by buying a used car from the very beginning. I think we did overstretch ourselves when we bought our car new. The finance was a very big commitment each month.

You Can Leave With It Straight Away

I remember when we bought our Skoda Octavia brand new back about six years ago. We had to wait months for it to be delivered to the showroom. If we had bought a used car from somewhere like TMC Used Cars we could have left with it straight away. If your looking for a car in a hurry then used cars are the way to go!

Thanks to COVID and uncertainty around things like supply chain or just getting the car into this country will make people eager just to go to a showroom and pick up a car they can immediately leave with. The last thing you want to do is place an order on a new car and then we all go back into a strict lockdown which halts manufacturing and deliveries.

Access To Better Equipped Cars

Buying a used car means you generally have access to better equipped cars as your money stretches much further. If you have a set budget an older car can give you some fancy specifications.

The Technology is Known

A brand-new car can occasionally have a few issues such as teething problems with new technology. So, buying a used car you know where you stand. The technology has been proven and any issues will have hopefully have already been fixed by the manufacturer. For this reason, I don’t think I want to be first in line to buy a brand new self-driving car. I will wait to see how people get on and buy a used car in the future. Collision avoidance and lane keeping technology advancements means we might see self-driving cars on UK motorways in 2021!
