As much as any parent loves their children, there comes a time when the adult need adult time away from the kids. With them safely parked at the grandparents for a night or two. It will leave quality time for mum and dad to enjoy together as a couple on weekend breaks.

Some couples prefer to reignite the passion that burned so bright before the patter of little feet. Whilst others like to indulge themselves without worrying about the responsibility of children. A Romantic Retreat

With children around, it can be hard to find time for – well, you know – so this is the perfect time to romance each other. Beautiful cities such as Paris and Milan are packed full of wonders for loved-up couples to enjoy. Plus, highly reputable hotels to retire to (or never leave!).

Equally, however, you don’t even have to have your passport handy. An empty house, a good film (thanks, Netflix), your favourite takeaway and a glass of bubbly also make for the perfect weekend. A throwback to the days before you were interrupted by the cries of little ones upstairs who can’t get to sleep.

Viva Las Vegas

This isn’t for everyone, and it certainly isn’t for those looking for a romantic getaway. Las Vegas is the global capital for adult fun, with casinos and shows aplenty. Spend the day at the roulette table, playing a game of poker or just simply taking in the sights of Sin City because this isn’t a place for those under the age of 21.

Some choose to spend a week or two in Vegas, while many others believe that a weekend is more than enough time for the city to chew you up and spit you out. Remember, though, what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas.

Fancy learning about the dark side of history that the children won’t read about in their textbooks at school? If so, then there are gory tales lurking in almost every corner of the world. Yet none no more sickening than that of Jack the Ripper, who prowled the streets of London in 1888.

Whitechapel was the killer’s hunting ground where five innocent souls were cruelly robbed of their lives. The Ripper cared not for his victims or anyone affected by his deeds and what truly solidifies the murderer’s place in history is the fact that, to this day, his identity remains unknown. Experts and tours, such as what can be seen on this page, offer their own theories as to the events in the British capital. But what is sure that it makes for one heck of a tourist attraction.

Dublin City Pub Crawl

Oh, what great crack there is to be had in Dublin. The Irish capital is packed full of history and culture. However, we all know that’s not the main attraction when you arrive in the Emerald Isle with Dublin home to a vast array of public houses. At the Temple Bar, the most famous of the lot, you will find a warm. Plus. a friendly atmosphere complete with live traditional Irish music.

Friday and Saturday nights are when the party is at its peak. However, with tourists visiting Dublin all year around, you are bound to have a great night whatever day of the week it is. Extra points if you can somehow manage to book a hotel room on St Patrick’s Day. Then you will certainly be in for a party you will never forget (or remember!).

Christmas Shopping

Okay, so this probably isn’t the most exciting idea on this list. But at some point, you do need to think about buying the Christmas presents. Many parents pencil in a weekend when grandparents can look after the children whilst they buy all of the presents (go and speak to Santa).

Christmas will be here before you know it (it will, honest). This means it needs to be done sooner or later. You never know, if you have been good this year, Santa may just leave you a couple of plane tickets. Maybe to Vegas, Dublin or somewhere else!
