To be fair I am not a big fan of football or sports in general. However, that cannot be said for my two boys who are absolute die hard fans. Last year we visited Barcelona’s Camp Nou, which happens to be eldest’s favorite team. We said at the time to youngest who is a keen Liverpool supporter that we would book the Anfield tour for him!

On the Liverpool Football Club Tour

I have to say I was really impressed with the tour.  From the moment you walk through the door you are welcomed by happy and very professional staff. As we live a few hours drive away I was keen to leave early to ensure we got there on time. Not only did we arrive on time we were about an hour early! So we headed in anyway to get our bearings.  However rather than being turned away to wait for the allotted time we were allowed to proceed on the tour as it was quiet at that particular time.  I thought that was very considerate of them.

The Tour Device

When you are checking in you get a free pair of LFC in ear headphones to keep. You use these with your self guided tour device, which offers audio, video and games. The devices are really quite good and easy to use.  They allow you to take in a lot of facts.  Some people have said they feel it lacks the human touch but I would disagree as its very well done.  Additionally there are so many stewards around that fill that void effortlessly!  We had teething problems with one of our devices but they had replacement ones as you walked around the tour.

Our thoughts

We spent around three hours on the tour. On the whole we did not feel rushed.  We spent the longest time in the home locker room.  While in the locker room you can utilise the camera function on your tour device on the player shirts to get more information. The steward there gave plenty of information on the locker room. He told us about the differences between home and away rooms. With the home side being much more comfortable.  They have things like dimming lights for the home players eyes to adjust for a night game.

This lead on to a funny discussion about how in years gone by teams would use the home game advantages.  Like highly polishing the away teams locker room floor so the other plays might slip and injure themselves and changing the mirrors to put players off track.  I found this all very interesting and was my personal highlight our the tour.

If you get the chance I would recommend booking a tour even if you don’t follow football like me!
