Our master bedroom just needs to have the bathroom completed and then it’s ready for us to move in, the en suite isn’t particularly big but its going to be a huge asset to the house if we carefully think about it layout. We got a bit carried away ripping everything out when we first moved in and it’s been quite a gradual process affording the money to install new bathroom fittings so it’s exciting to almost be there! We did move the doorway, so the available space could be utilized better. Like I said it’s not a big space but there are still things you can do to make the most of what you have.

Choose Neutral Colours

Neutral colours always make a room look bigger than it is, anything dark and the walls start to close in. It’s incredible how the colour paint you pick out really can alter the illusion of space in the room. Nothing too bright or too dark and make sure the skirting and coving is lighter again to draw the eye. If you think it will look boring or too cold painted white add colour with your choice of towels and accessories.

Adding a Skylight

Our en suite has no windows, it would probably be a good idea to add a skylight to help it appear lighter. I don’t think we have the budget sadly, so we will have to make do with installing some decent lighting instead. But if you can afford a skylight do consider it, nothing beats natural light for creating that impression of spaciousness.

Buy bathroom furniture

Clutter takes up too much space, you want everything tucked away in a cabinet out of sight. You don’t want the first thing that people notice is all your bathroom products littering every available spot in the room! Mirror Placement

If placed in the correct area a mirror can bounce the light (whether natural or artificial) around the room and help keep it bright and cheerful. If you want to try something different you could also consider mirrored tiles these can look very effective.

Consider a Wet Room

Personally, I am not a fan but apparently they are a good space saver. Our main bathroom has one and the water gets everywhere! So, do your research before committing to a layout you might end up hating. Take time to think about the design of your bathroom.

Don’t feel like you must fit everything in

In a small space a bath isn’t necessary, don’t feel you have to squeeze it all in.
