During the school holidays, it is important to keep children on top of their academics to make sure they don’t fall back in class. This doesn’t mean that they have to sit by a desk all day and complete equations. Instead they can gain the necessary skills through hobbies. There are plenty of unique hobbies out there that your child can pick up.

Here are five to get your child started.

1. Origami is an ancient art of folding paper and making intricate shapes and figures. Your child can start off simple by making animals or little objects. There are plenty of online classes and tutors around who can help your child begin. You can also pop over to your local library or book shop to find easy to understand guide books on how to help you child learn this art.
2. Crochet is an interesting hobby to introduce your child. Not only can it keep them busy for a very long time but they can end up creating wearable items such as hats, scarves and bags as well as cute little animals. Your child can start off with easy patterns and gradually move up.
3. This may seem like a mundane activity but there are many different types of ways your child can learn to paint. With the number of materials available, your child can indulge in water paints, oil paints or even acrylics.
4. Help them start a collection. This is a long-term hobby and is completely down to what your child enjoys. An example of what they can collect can be seashells. Your child can pick up different seashells found in different countries as memorable souvenirs.
5. Once again this could be something that seems very simple but can be exciting to a child. Not only will they be allowed to get their hands dirty but they will be able to experience the magic of watching a seed grow into a plant.
