Top tips for helping your child with their homework
When it comes to school and learning, homework can be the most difficult part for some children. This can be due to many different reasons such as lack of motivation, not understanding content or finding the work too easy. It is important to remember that children are a lot more successful in school when their parents take an active interest in the work they complete which includes the homework given. Helping your child with that homework does not mean spending hours at a desk with them. You can help them by showing support and offering ease. Homework Space
Set up an area that is homework friendly. Ensure the space is well lit so that your child can complete their homework in ease. Keep a draw close by full of supplies such as papers, pencil’s, erasers and rulers so that your child will not have to faff around looking for materials when they need them.
Help them create a schedule so that they study regularly. Find out what time of the day or child studies best, this could be the afternoon or the evening. Have a healthy snack ready for them and a time to play afterwards so that they wind down after studying.
Try and keep distractions to a minimum. Ensure that when your child is studying, the house is as quiet as possible. Keep loud music away and turn the TV off so that there is no reason for your child to be distracted during their study time.
Reward them for their efforts. If your child has been working extra hard, show them your appreciation and praise their work by giving them a special treat. Mention their academic achievements to relatives as this will motivate them to work harder.
