You might consider scrapbooking a feminine pursuit, but I think it’s a great way for men to unlock their creative side too. It can be quite therapeutic crafting, especially seeing  the end result which you have carefully put together.  You can make a scrapbook to celebrate an occasion or document your children growing up.  It is such a wonderful keepsake for them when they grow up.  The perfect way for them to hang on to memories.

You can easily find a  Scrapbook Design theme that will suit your needs.  There are vehicles, sports and BBQ’s for the guys.  Not to say that they are themes strictly for men either!  I have very little interest in sports myself so no judgement here about what you decide to use.  Your scrapbook is your vision so don’t feel you have to follow a particular format.  Sites like Design Bundles have so much choice you will easily find something appropriate whatever your interests.  You can also find lots of information on Pinterest. 

Think about the Focal Point 

On each page what do you want people’s eyes to be drawn to first.  It might be worth mocking up your scrapbook first so you can see how the pictures work together.  Once you bring out the glue it’s a lot harder to make changes. 

Buy Supplies 

There are certain things that are handy to have in when you start scrapbooking, from the most obvious things like glue and card to the fancier elements that can add a real impact to your scrapbook!  You might already have lots of things at home you can incorporate anyway.  For example, stickers, ribbons and patterned paper you have been meaning to use for something!  So have a good look around before you make any further purchases.   

It’s useful to learn to keep small offcuts of patterned paper, they might be too small for some craft projects but the ideal size for scrapbooking. Probably the most important thing is just making sure you have  acid-free glue, as otherwise you can compromise the quality of your photos.  Other than that you have quite a lot of free rein when it comes to buying supplies. 

Suitable Storage 

You need somewhere to keep your project safe whilst you are working on it.  Somewhere the pages can be kept flat and not get damaged.  This is quite important as scrapbooking can take considerable time. 

Avoid common mistakes 

Buying too many supplies just because they look pretty, and you think you might use them one day for a scrapbooking project.  My mother in law is a bit like this, she can barely fit into her craft room as its so well stocked now.  Likewise, about not buying too many supplies also don’t feel like you need to then use too much on each page of your scrapbook.  You want it to look nice not overwhelming! If you go all out with embellishments, ribbons, die-cuts and anything else you can find it might take away attention for the pictures you want to be the focal point.
