Let me introduce you to the National Citizen Scheme (NCS) a programme open to 15 to 17 year olds.  It is held over the school holidays, so you don’t have to worry about your child missing out on their studies.  If you have already booked a vacation still apply as the NCS might have space on a programme that will match your child’s availability.

It’s so good for children to see how much they can contribute to society.  It could be the making of many a teen!  They will broaden their horizons experiencing varied activities and workshops.  Developing transferable skills that will make them more employable in future!

All things that parents are keen to encourage.  But the programme is also packaged in a fun and appealing way.  Children make new friends from a variety of backgrounds and even have an end of programme shindig!

My mum didn’t have much spare money when I was growing up.  My parents had separated, and holidays were few and far between.  However, the NCS is very affordable and inclusive to all.  Priced at £95 for food, accommodation and travel its not off limits for anyone!  They also offer bursaries to help those that need it.  So never let a lack of funds get in the way of your child’s adventure.  It can open their eyes to a whole new world of experiences.

Government Backed

The scheme is government backed because they realized just how important an opportunity like this is for our kids.  My mum is a foster carer and one of her girls did the programme and thoroughly enjoyed it!  Since it was established in 2011 almost 400,000 children have taken part.  Many of those feel more confident about their futures because of it.

Giving back to the community can be a very rewarding experience for your child.  They might help on fundraising stalls, put on a show for the elderly or go litter picking.  Connecting with their communities in a way they hadn’t considered before.  The life of a teen can be quite insular otherwise. The NCS is all about getting them out of their comfort zone and living life to the full!
