How to Cope with a Young Baby
When you have a baby, along with all the joy and happiness that they bring, there are other things such as sleepless nights, crying and constant feeding. However, although this can be a challenging time, there are ways that you can make it bearable. What you need to do is establish a plan and use some outside influences to help get you some time to yourself.
Establish a Game Plan
If this is your first child, then this step can be the most important. But even if this is your fifth, there are still things you need to establish. Discuss with your partner who can manage the tasks that need to be done. For example, who will do the bottles at night if needed? Who will wake up for feeds in the night? All of these questions need to be considered and worked out in advance. Otherwise, it might see both of you getting up which won’t help. It is also important to get these ideas into motion before the sleep deprivation sets in. Or you will find things will seem a lot harder.
Postpone Big Events
If you are planning a big event such as taking part in a marathon, then it will probably be best to postpone it until your baby is a few months old at least. These early months will place a big drain on you physically and mentally. Therefore you need to be keeping any other energy-draining events to a minimum. It could also be a good time to stop the weekly trips out with friends for a while. Although you still need time to yourself, you don’t want to be leaving the other person on their own with the baby unless you must.
Invest in Toys and Other Equipment
Even though you will be eager to do everything for your baby, there are just not enough hours in the day for everything. Technology has enabled parents to get some rest while keeping an eye on the baby. Night time monitors are a great way to watch your baby. Especially as you can hear when they are crying. It also means that you can sit downstairs and enjoy your favorite shows while relaxing for a while.
During the day, you need to have time to do other things, but if your baby wants rocking constantly, it can mean nothing getting done. There are things such as baby swings such as those on the parent guide website that will allow your baby to be comforted by the gentle rocking motion while you get on with things around the house. Many baby swings also have additional toys that can keep your baby occupied while they swing. If your child doesn’t want to swing, then baby mats are also a good distraction for them as they often have texture and sound activities.
By having a plan in advance and getting toys and swings to help you and the baby, will help you to deal with the difficult early months when your baby is young.
