There are many benefits to having a hobby. They can act as a form of stress relief that can improve your confidence and self-esteem. Hobbies deliver both fun and fulfilment. However, as beneficial as hobbies are, not everyone has the room to pursue them. This can be a real shame given the obvious advantages. Fortunately adding a garden room can give you extra space to create the perfect hobby room. A garden building can easily be transformed into the perfect hobby room. You will have a dedicated space to store everything you need to make a success of your hobby. Whether it’s writing supplies, pots of paint or your model building kits.

Most hobbies tend to involve supplies of some sort, that ideally need to be organised and stored safely! You should see my mothers-in-law craft room. I don’t know how she manages to squeeze in the spare bedroom along with everything else. In her case, a garden building would give her the extra room she craves so she can continue to make beautiful cards.

A garden room can be very peaceful, away from the hustle and bustle of the main house. Normally you might start your hobby but then get distracted with the pile of dishes in the sink or the fact the floor could do with a quick hoover. Then the kids start yelling for you, or the dog starts barking at the postman. You soon lose your trail of thought.

When you have a lot going on around you in your house it can be hard to stay focused on a hobby. If you have a garden room or building you can escape to, you can leave those distractions behind. A garden room looks out on your garden. You can have bi-folding doors opening out onto nature. Apparently being close to nature can help you be more creative. So, it might work well in developing your ability in those creative hobbies such as painting, pottery, woodworking or drawing.

Natural Light & Ventilation

Certain hobbies such as painting benefit from lots of natural light. Therefore, you could locate your garden building in the optimal spot for light.

Also, you might have issues with ventilation with your hobby. So, you choose to have bifold doors, you will find it easier to ventilate the room. Paint fumes and hobby work glue can impact indoor air quality so it’s better if you are outside the main house, away from the children and pets when you are working on your creative projects.

Showcase Your Work

When you have a bigger space to use as a hobby room you can even showcase your work. You can leave your creations on display and not panic it will get accidently destroyed by one of the kids. You can increase your self-esteem with the sense of achievement you get admiring what you have created.

If you enjoy playing musical instruments, then your perfect hobby room will ideally have soundproofing. This means you could practise as much as you like without worrying your disturbing your neighbours. If you don’t have soundproofing, you would have to be very careful about when you play and for how long. Most councils consider only up to one hour reasonable. Otherwise you can risk fines and having your instrument confiscated.
