5 Key Steps In Every Successful House Move
You know it, we know it, everyone knows it - moving can be the most stressful milestone you often experience in life. It’s never easy and often causes a lot of problems, but, we still do it. Whether we outgrow our home or finally find our dream house, we move time and time again. And, although you think we’d all become experts at the process by now, we still make mistakes. It’s easily done. With so much to do and a lot to arrange, something’s got to give. But, if you’re about to move and you want to make sure you get it right this time, there are the five key steps that you should look to follow.
As with many things in life, organization is key. It really can make or break your move. You need to be able to know where you are and what you’re doing weeks before the big day. Not only does being organized help with the actual moving day itself, but it can also make the run up a little easier too. Make sure that you pack with a plan, label everything and keep everything together. There’s nothing like losing things or leaving things behind to mess up your move.
2. Stay Safe
Next up, you’re going to want to make sure that you take extra care while planning the packing and moving process of some of your things. Your home entertainment center, your antique furniture, the kids piano, or even your pets should all be moved safely and securely. It might take you a little extra time to pack everything up right and arranged for it to be moved, but when everything goes off without a hitch, you’ll be so glad you set that time aside.
3. Book Everything In Advance
Along with making sure your packing process is organized and as efficient as it can be, you’re going to want to make sure that you look everything else in advance too. Need interstate removalists? Be sure to check that the firm you want is available weeks before you need them. Want a cleaner to come in and get your current house up to spec? Make sure you call around and get the best price before you leave it too late and get an emergency call out charge on top.
4. Get In Early
Lots of people like the get their exchange dates to line up. You might feel as if you’re saving money that way, but you’re probably making your move extra hard for everyone involved. Where you can, get into your new place early and plan an overlap. That way, you can get in, clean everything up and evening decorate if you’ve managed to snag the time. You’ll be grateful when your move day means that everything is in and you’re ready to start enjoying your new home earlier.
5. Tick Off As You Go
If there’s only one thing you make sure you do from this whole list, it has to be making a moving checklist. If you try to play it by ear, you may fail miserable. Because we all know if you fail to prepare, you prepare to fail. So, write that list up nice and early and make sure you tick everything off as you go. Before long, all that will be left will be to pop open the champagne and enjoy a celebratory sip.
