Amazon’s on Fire #amazonfire

So this evening I was haplessly surfing around looking for the next bargain to appear on my radar for The Mrs Christmas shopping, when I stumbled across the Amazon’s new budget tablet the Amazon Fire.

Amazon states that it is 1.8 time more durable than the iPad Air 2, I must admit I had visions of the tablets being thrown out of various fast moving vehicles “Top Gear Style” rather than the tumble test they actually perform.

The Fire does boast some great features for the humble price of £49.99, features such as a 1.3GHz Quad-core processor, 1 GB ram and an 7” IPS display with advanced polarising filter. For the price I would not expect much from the 2 MP rear facing camera but you may be surprised (Although I doubt it).

The tablet is advertised with 8GB storage there is in fact only 5GB available to you, however you can expand this up to 128GB via a microSD card. The battery life has been written up as 7 hours of reading / surfing on the net – all dependant on device settings so you could well imagine this would drop a fair bit if you like a bright screen! The unit does charge fully at around 6 hours with the supplied cables.

In my opinion I would suggest that this could be a good option for a younger child wanting a tablet of their own, it’s cheap and sounds like it can take a knock or two.

The Amazon Fire is available from 30th September, if you are lucky enough to be reading this from the USA, your very fortunate as you can pick this up for $49.99 that’s £17.97 cheaper than in the UK, come on Amazon cut us a small break here in the UK!

If you are a larger family or wanted the make Christmas presents easier this year you can currently buy 5 and get one free!
